Bacterial Efficacy
The importance of 99.999% Bacterial Efficacy.
Bacterial Efficacy of 99.9% is a log 3 reduction, and does not meet the European Standard.
A
product killing 99.9% of bacteria leaves 1,000 bacteria for every
million on the surface. (A typical surface used for raw meat would have
millions of bacteria per square centimetre.) A product killing 99.999%
of bacteria leaves 10 bacteria for every million on the surface. In 2
hours 1000 bacteria could grow to 256000; whilst 10 bacteria would grow
to 256.
Whilst using an EN tested disinfectant, giving a 99.999%
reduction in bacteria will minimise the number of remaining bacteria it
will not wipe them out completely. The major problem is the speed at
which the remaining bacteria grow. A number of factors effect the growth
rate eg. Temperature and presence of water; the surface and level of
contamination.
Good cleaning practices with effective cleaning
and disinfectant products on a regular basis will minimise the number of
bacteria.
With their high efficacy against bacteria the Unico
range of disinfectants used in a “continuity programme” will reduce the
likelihood of infection.
We would recommend that you use the same
family of products and do not change manufacturers ranges on a regular
basis. Unico disinfectants are all fully compatible with each other.
